Santa Cruz and Big Sur

A quick coastal camping trip in Santa Cruz and Big Sur is one of our favorite ways to escape the heat of the Northern California Valley summers. We like to start with a stay at New Brighton State Beach, just walking distance from the charming surf town of Capitola, and a short drive to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Next, we head an hour south to Big Sur, stopping in Monterey and Carmel on the way before settling in, nestled amongst the redwoods at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Along the way, Hwy 1 offers views of the rugged California coast, which people travel from all over the world to see.
